What a few couple of days!

Hi Everybody,

Ok, so the last story was about my performance in the crewshow…didn’t really get a lot of reactions the next day, but Jayson, my senior did! He did a traditional dance from the Phillipines and people really loved it, which they all had to tell him!!haha

On Sunday we went back to Paris, where we stayed through Monday and Tuesday. On Monday there was an excursion, but most people took the day off from them and went their own way. It was a really nice day to go wander around Paris, but I didn’t get a change to do that.
My break started at noon and I thought I’d take a nap until lunchtime…which I almost managed to do. But by the time I really fell asleep, there was an announcement that there was loading…which means that all crewmembers have to help loading the supplies onto the ship. We all stand in a line and pass everything to one another. This time there really was a lot of stuff and it was heavy too, think of crates full of potatoes, melons, bottles of water…my arms look like someone has been beating me up!!!

By the time we were done, it was 3 o’clock when we finally had lunch and then I only had half an hour before I had to go back to work, so a nap wasn’t going to happen! That afternoon it was very busy, people coming back from their walk, people who wanted to settle their accounts, dinner menu’s had to be checked and printed…I was going crazy!
But eventually it became 8 o’clock, so all went well.

Then Tuesday the group of last week were going home, some of them, no most of them very early!!! I started working at 6 to help the Cruisedirector with the checking of the luggage, for some people had to leave for the airport at 6:30, 7 am!! I thought it was going to be total chaos, but it all went pretty smooth actually!! We managed to get everyone on the bus and I didn’t hear any complaints about people not having their luggage, so we did good.

When the group leaves, we are all busy getting ready for the next group, who will arrive around 4pm that same day. Every cruise has it’s own Cruisedirector, who send us welcom aboard papers and everything and we have to make sure everyone gets them. On these disembarkation and embarkation days we don’t have a long break. I only had a break for an hour and I decided to spend that hour in the park opposite our docking place, called Parc André Citroën. The sun was out, it was really nice, I listened to music an wrote in my diary. By the time I got back, the lobby was filled with the suitcases for the next cruisers and there was some officesupplies…my senior was going crazy with all the things we had to do. It was really funny, he wished he was still second so he wouldn’t have to do all those things!!haha

The new group came in around 4pm, it’s a group of 131 people, from the US, NZ, Australië, Canada and the UK. But this group is completely different from the last one, can’t really put my finger on it, but there’s a different vibe. Plus we’ve already found out that there are a couple of heavy drinkers in that group, so we’ll see how that turns out.
We also have a new Cruisedirector, every group gets a new one. They work for 2 or 3 cruises in a row and then they have a couple of days off, before they start again. We also have a new captain, the captain works 2 weeks in a row and then he gets some time of, another one steps in. Which is only natural, because they also work at nights. I liked the first captain, he was nice didn’t see him much. This captain is getting too close for comfort, not really sure what to think of it, but I don’t like it.
Fortunately he is mostly in the wheelhouse on top of the ship!

This new Cruisedirector is a nice man, he explains everything very well and he really had those heavy drinkers nailed yesterday! They were talking really loud when he was giving his talk and then he just stopped saying anything for a minute, everyone else stopped talking, so they onlly heard the loud ones and they were embarrassed!!! Loving it!!!

It’s too bad, because I really liked the other group, there were some very nice people in that group, had a good connection with them!

O well, can’t have it all!!
Still no uniform by the way, don’t know why that has to take soo long.

Love
Linda

    Paula Edwards:

So when do you get to check out Paris? November?
Poor Chloe has the chicken pox. I put calamine lotion on in case she started itching during the night. She had an allergic reaction to that. Poor kid.

Doesn't sound like you get much time off from work. Is it what you expected?
Gotta go and feed the kids, cats, & chickens.

    Love you,

    Paula
