Well, we do get to see some weird people on these cruises let me tell ya!
Couple of cruises ago, we had a guy who was an idiot from the start! Came in demanding his roomnumber before we even started the checkin, people were still walking in the door..then he came up to the desk asking for the wifi while we were checking in other guests. On Wednesday he came back from his excursion to the Bizy Castle and said he had forgotten his camera at their giftshop. So the Cruisedirector called and had arranged for a cab to come and bring back the camera. Off course there was a fee for this ride, but since the gentleman was not there to pay for it, we paid the driver and gave the receipt to him. We had the camera on our desk and when I asked Jayson if he had picked it up, it turned out that he had just taken the camera without telling Jayson that he took it, stupid thing to do, it could’ve been somebody elses camera! We ended up waiting for the money to come, but he never came to see us about it. Finally the Cruisedirector gave the money to us and he would deal with the idiot himself. So he wrote him a letter saying he had paid the money to us for him and that he would like to have it back. Then the idiot came to the desk, started screaming at our Nighty, but the cruisedirector was right there, so he called him over to settle it. The idiot said that the camera wasn’t that important to have it brought back by cab, they could’ve send it back to him…so the cruisedirector asked him why he didn’t tell him that in the first place, he thought he was doing him a service by getting it back the same day. Eventually he did pay, so everything was settled! But really, he called himself a professor…. Professor in Stupidity, because on the last day, he managed pay his gratuity with his creditcard, when we ask everyone to do that the day before. And he managed to forget his phone in our back lounge!!! Fortunately for him he was staying in Paris, so he could come back to get it, otherwise I’m sure it wasn’t all that important and we could’ve send it back to him by mail!!! Haha
Of course the idiots always come in two’s or three’s…There was another guy who kept coming to the desk moaning about how his travelagency didn’t give him the option of paying the gratuities when booking the trip and they didn’t tell him he could pre arrange a transfer from the ship to the airport when going home…I was sorry to hear that, but there was nothing he could do about it now. In the end he paid his gratuity here and the cruisedirector got him on one of his transfers. The whole week it looked like he would only talk to me about it, so when I saw him coming, I’d think Here we go again! But he surprised me when he said that I was highly overqualified for this job as he left… It was a nice surprise though! Haha
I managed to damage my reputation as Queen of Transfers….On one of the embarkation days we had 4 people going to their hotel with a taxi. The guy asked me if all of his bags were in the car, we opened it to let them put more bags in there, but they never checked if everything was there, because when they were gone we still had one of their bags on the ship! Fortunately we were able to locate their hotel and we had a cab pick up the suitcase and bring it back to them. That was the first and will definitely be the last time that that happens!! Season is almost over and then this happens!! I told Tony the cruisedirector and he said the guy was stupid not to check the bags and he said I was still the Queen…
Last week we had a new cruisedirector, we had seen him before as a trainee with one of our other cruisedirector, but this was the first time he was here. He was a little weird, it almost felt like he didn’t want to be here. No communication with us, no enthousiasm about people could do while they were with us, I don’t know, something was off. Didn’t read the comments about him on our questionnaires, but still…
Last Tuesday we had our second to last group this season. And it started out pretty good, I thought! I was sitting at the desk putting all the passport information in the computer when one of the guests came up and said that if I was looking for these, they would be in his room and then he made like he was going to take to bowl of candy with him. It was funny. So then when he was gone I asked Jayson if I could put a whole bag of that candy in his room! We had 3 bags left, so that was fine. So I got one of the bags, put a little post-it note on it and put it in his room….afterwards I started thinking that maybe I might have to wrong guy, but I’m pretty good with faces and roomnumbers so I was sure I was right. Then the next day I saw the gentleman again, but he didn’t say anything. So I asked Jayson if he knew anything about it. He said the gentleman brought the bag of candy back that same evening and asked why it was in his room…so Jayson explained the reason. He said he wasn’t mad, but he also didn’t really thought it as funny and then he proceeded to show Jayson some card trick…O well, some people only laugh at their own jokes! I thought it was funny!
So now we are in our second to last cruise, counting down in events, last loading, last embarkation, 2 more disembarkations…
Last Tuesday we got our new group with Yvette as cruisedirector. We have a tourleader for a group whom we thought in the beginning to be a real piece of work, she was complaining that she had to wait with the checkin until the whole group was inside… But now she’s actually very nice and working very hard for her group of people. It’s funny, her name is also Linda and her birthday is also in July!!!
Among the guests we have one gentleman who told me he had a severe case of Craft and he asked if everyone was going to wear namebadges….I looked at him like I didn’t know what he was talking about and then he told me what Craft stands for. “Can’t Remember A Freakin’ Thing” hahaha I thought that was a pretty good joke!!
Now that we are getting closer to going home, we all have to make sure our cabins are clean. So for the past couple of weeks we have had a cabin check on Saturday. We’ve had one pretty much every month, but now we have to really get it checked. The HM had a problem with it last year, where she thought everyone would understand things had to be clean and ended up chasing everyone at the end to clean things. So the first time they came up with a list of things we had to check again. For last week’s check we made sure everything on that list was taken care of, but of course they made another list…. And I’m telling you they were just looking for things!!! I swear we did everything that was on that list, but now they found a whole set of other things we have to take a look at…Plus for the very last check there are other things we have to make sure are clean before we leave…Sure, I don’t care, one more week to go and we’re off!!!
31st of October 2014
So today I have worked my ass off to get everything as clean as I can get it, but I’m sure there will be other things that aren’t just right! I know the Housekeeper doesn’t like Regina, I never had this shit when I was in the cabin with Andrea. Unfortunately the HM takes the Housekeepers word for it, so I know I can expect to see another list tomorrow!
Not that I really care, like I said I’ll be going home in a week! As far as we know we’re going to go home from Rouen. We’ll be in Paris on Tuesday to say goodbye to this last group of people, then we will be sailing back to Rouen on Wednesday morning, where the ship will be undergoing her winter check. The HM has talked to someone at Personel this morning, but they hadn’t gotten any tickets yet, they were going to purchase them today and tomorrow…can’t wait to see if they are going to get me a train ticket! But like everything else, I’ll just have to wait and see!
So now we have our last group on board with Danille as Cruise Director, who is really stressed out…For some reason that no one really knows, there has been a change in schedule. Normally we would leave Paris on Tuesday evening, but now we stayed in Paris and we left on Wednesday evening. Yesterday we were in Conflans, this morning we started in Vernon and this afternoon we’re in Les Andelys. We will be in Rouen over the weekend and on Monday we will be back in Vernon, sailing back to Paris in the afternoon. But there is a strike coming on with the lock masters, so we could be stuck in Vernon/Conflans for all we know!!
Today’s Halloween and no one in France does anything about it really, but our Nighty has decorated the Lounge and the Lobby last night. There’s cobwebs, spiders and pumpkins everywhere! She did a good job and the guests really appreciate the gesture!
This cruise is a Theme cruise, the Culinairy Cruise. Which means the guests get a recipe for one of our Main courses every evening, there’s going to be a Master of Wine tomorrow, to talk about what wine goes with which dish and yesterday we had a Comtesse talk about French Etiquette….that lecture took 2 hours and I don’t think anybody really liked it!! Normally she would give these classes, because that is what it is really, to businesspeople who are trying to business with French companies and don’t want to look bad when they are going out for lunch or dinner!! But talking to guests who are just looking to have a good time is a completely different thing!!! So I don’t think they’ll ask her to come again!!! So that’s about the only extra things that are happening this week, the rest is as usual. But in my opinion, that makes this whole cruise seem like everything is packed into it!
Tuesday evening was the Illumination tour through Paris, then on Wednesday was a choice between 3 excursions, today there’s two excursions, tomorrow there’s 2 excursions and then Sunday they’re going to be at the beaches all day. Then on Monday there’s a bit of a rest, but everything else feels like people are being rushed, everything is packed into only a couple of days…
Off course we had to have a last crew show!! Was kind of hoping that we wouldn’t have to do it anymore, but alas….o well, it’s going to be tonight, at least we will be able to tick that off of our lists!! haha
