Hi,
Well, my last two training days are over!
I had some First Aid training. Yesterday we trained a recovery position and how to do CPR. It was a good training, I had something like this 100 years ago, so it is always good to refresh the memory.
We practiced the CPR on dolls, we all had our own “faces” to put on the doll. So instead of all of us using the same doll and cleaning the mouth for the next user, we all had our own mask to put in the doll. So no weird taste in our mouths! I thought it was kind of hard to do, because you have to press the chest hard and fast, I felt like I was breaking my hands. So I hope this will not be needed at all and that there will be someone to help me when it is needed!
Anyway, we were scheduled to have the training until 6pm yesterday, but around 4pm we were finished. This morning we started again at 8:15am and this time there were some other people there, who weren’t at yesterday’s training. So the “old” crew got some case studies we had to discuss for an hour, while the trainer could so the recovery position and CPR to the other people. But we were done in half an hour, so he gave us another break! Then we had a general discussion about the case studies and we had another break for lunch.
We came back at 2pm and all we did was talk about some small things that weren’t talked about in the morning, he gave us our Trainingpassports and that was it! We were done at 2:30!!!!!
So here we were stuck on a ship in the middle of nowhwere with nothing more to do! My ticket to go home is for tomorrow, I could’ve been at home by now!
My roommate already had this First Aid training, it is valid for 2 years. She only had to attend yesterday’s training and today she had the whole day off, with nothing to do! She tried to change her ticket so she could leave today, but changing the date cost almost as much as the original ticket, so she didn’t do it.
Too bad to be honest! I would’ve have really minded if she had left this afternoon, it would have given me at least one good night’s sleep!!! Haha
So this afternoon I started working on crew namebadges and a crew list for this season. Things will change, the list I have now is not an accurate one, but at least I got some things done. I packed my suitcase and I sat outside for a while. One last dinner as a guest on this ship and now I’m writing again.
My train leaves at a quarter to 11am and I will take a cab at 9:15, just to make sure I’m on time. I don’t remember how long it took exactly when I got here, but you never know how busy it is going to be and if the driver has a GPS in his car! Haha
Talk to you later!
Love
Linda
ps sorry about the disorganised text, I make it on word, really nice with space in between, but when I paste it in here it becomes one piece...

A new adventure!!!

HI Everyone,

Yes, my vacation is almost over, I'm about to work my ass off again!!

Last year I came home with a contract for Second receptionist, they said I might get a new contract for Senior receptionist, but to be honest I didn't think that would happen anymore. I was actually looking for some courses I could take while I was working.

But this February they did offer me a new contract for Senior! I really did not see that one coming!!
I did have to think about it a little, you know "can I do this, I've only done it for 2 weeks last year, do I still know what to do"...the usual.

But I have decided to take this challenge and make the best of it!!
I'm very nervous about it, really scared, but ot be honest with myself I also know that if I were to work as Second again, I would become bored...I know what to do and it is not that hard...So being Senior will be good!

I'm hoping to get my own cabin this season, I will definately NOT be moving around like last year and I'm going to take 3 weeks off instead of 2 like last year, because that is just way too short!

Plus I'm going to treat myself to a trip to Australia at the end of the season, I was already planning to do this, but now it will definately be this carrot in front of my nose, to get me through this season!

I have also been invited to a Kick Off Meeting in Cologne, where I will be going tomorrow.
I thought this would be some kind of training, but it will be more of a discussion thing where we are going to come up with ways to make the Avalon guest even more happy then they already are!
I think we will also get some kind of First Aid training.

I will get to see some of my co-workers from last season, so that will be fun...plus I can ask them to tell me how things went in case I forget!

Then on the 10th of March I will go back to Arnhem, visit my rabbit in Almere and on the 19th of March I will go back to work for real...only I still don't know on which ship or which country for that matter, I'm hoping to find out next week!

I'll keep you posted!!

Love
Linda
