A short story...
So, Our second cruise ended last night, all was well. We managed to get all the money people owed us and they all got in their taxi’s to go home! Fridays are always the most horrible days for me, I have to chase people to get their money and to have them sign up for a taxi if they need one and then at night I have to settle the accounts. Not my favorite day so to speak…
Last week our Nighty heard that someone in his family had died, so he wanted to go home to help arrange things. So we only had a couple of days to train someone to take his place. He would be gone from Saturday until Wednesday.
This was the 3rd person who went home to take care of some stuff. A week ago one of our waiters went home to take care of some work business, now the Nighty was gone and next Sunday one of our cabinstewardesses is going home..we’re wondering wether or not she’ll come back…she really misses her boyfriend, so there might be a chance she’s not coming back, but we’ll see.
The waiter came back and our Nighty came back this afternoon. He was supposed to arrive in the morning, so he could get some sleep before starting again tonight. But the railworkers were on strike in Germany and here I thought that only the French were good at striking!! SO he arrive around 5pm and he starts working again at 9pm. The girl who took his place did a pretty good job, I thought she was kind of a girly girl, but she really took this seriously and she liked doing it. But tonight they need her in the restaurant again, so it’s going to be a long night for our Nighty!!
Last weekend, Angela, one of our financial experts and one of the people I can call when I don’t know what I’m doing, was here on the ship to take a look at our cashbook. And everything was alright!! Just one or two minor things that we’ve corrected and everything else was okay! Me and the Hotelmanager were very glad to hear this! For me it was reassuring, I can continue like this until the end of the season!
In the meantime we were having money problems, but not in our cashbook. We need money to pay for expenses and to change big bills into smaller ones for the guests. But last week our coffers were empty so to speak! I had asked Angela if she knew where we would be able to get some money, because nowadays most banks got rid of their ready cash or you need to have a bank account to be able to do anything. And she told us that we have a bank account with a local bank, so we called the one closest to where we were at the moment and told them we wanted to get some money. It was short notice, but our HM got a shit load of money from that bank!! So now we have enough money to pay for everything and we can change dollars and give change if needed!
This week we have Karolien, the Dutch Cruise Director again..she is some character…she wants to have everything organized just so..but she is as unorganized as they come!!!! She keeps asking me things in Dutch, while I’m busy and she could have asked someone else in English, who is standing right next to me….very annoying. Glad she’s leaving Saturday!
But I’m told we get another Dutch Cruise Director…all of a sudden I’m surrounded by Dutch people!
This new group consists of 117 people, again some people I recognize from last year! Their pretty nice, but still it’s a different group…
Last Sunday I realized that I had survived my first month on this ship!!! Yes I started March 19th and I have made it to April 19th, good…7 more months to go!!
Tonight another crew show and guess what?! Yes, I’m to be MC again! Our chef didn’t want to do it, of course he owes me big time now!! He had said he was going to make me a pizza, because I like pizza, but so far he hasn’t done it yet…of course this calls for way more than pizza!!!
A short story this time, but I got to get ready for the show!!
