September 7th 2014
Most of the guests we have on board are nice, then there are some who are there, but you never really see or hear them and then there are the kind where you just go…..(fill in the blanks yourself!) !!!
As happened this cruise. For instance there was one gentleman who had asked for a 6th keycard, because he kept forgetting them in his room. When he came for one yesterday, it was the 4th, so I told him he would go on to the 5th! This morning he came up to the desk and said he needed a 6th…and it took me a minute to realize what he was talking about…but he already needed his 6th keycard!hahah
Tonight when he walked past the desk to go to the Lounge for the farewell cocktail, he said he had put two keycards in his pockets, just in case! That was just really funny!
But last night Geanina had a guest we would rather have thrown overboard! At midnight she got a call from a lady who said they couldn’t find their cellphone, she said they had searched the entire room, but they couldn’t find it. Geanina told her that if anything is lost on the ship it will be at the desk for people to come and pick it up. But the lady insisted that she search the entire ship for it….Then they came over to the desk to demand more from Geanina, really ridiculous! She said she needed to get to the info to stop her services, so Geanina directed her to one of our computers in the lobby, where she was banging away on the keyboard to get the right information. Now to call from the room is pretty expensive, it all goes through satellite. Then off course she was complaining about that fact that she had to pay for the call!! Anyway, they hadn’t found it during the night. Insisting that the phone never left the room, implying thereby that someone (read: the cabinsteward) must have taken it from the room.
The next morning she came up to me and I wished her a good morning, she said it wasn’t all that good and that I must already know why. I told her I did know, that I had already talked to the Housekeeper and that she offered to check the room for her again. I told her I would keep an eye out for it. Again she implied someone had taken it, when she said that she wondered where it would turn up. They went on an excursion in the morning and while they were gone, the HM and the Housekeeper went to the room to take a look, but they didn’t find anything. In the afternoon is an excursion to Versailles, where they also went to and I saw them when they came back. They made like they wanted to talk to me, but at that time I was too busy dealing with all the guests coming back, so they went to the room.
After a couple of minutes, they came up to the desk to tell me that they had found their phone….in the safe, on top of their passports and an envelope full of dollars….You should have seen my face!!! My mouth dropped open and my eyes became the size of saucers, I swear!!! I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing!!!! Of course they said that had already checked the save that night and couldn’t find it there at that time, again practically accusing someone else of having placed it back in the safe, while they were out. So I told her that the only people who can get into that safe are them, because they know the code and the engineer, but he never goes in there unless the guests have forgotten their code, and he only opens is when one of the guests is there to see him do it. Plus they would have to reset their code afterwards, and that wasn’t the case with them….
Plus I told the CRD when we talked about it that none of the crewmembers would be interested in her phone, when they probably already had the latest in technology they could find, so what would they want with her old phone?! Later I heard her repeat that to that lady, not in so many words, but it was really funny!!
So they probably didn’t take all of the stuff out of the safe when they went through it to look for it…probably were too drunk to see straight anyway, because this was the same lady that said the bar had charged her for a whisky cola, when she had a whisky with ginger ale (the first being 30 cents less than if they had charged everything separate….)
Anyway, I was glad the phone was back where it was supposed to be, but I hated her for making all that fuss and then later saying she wasn’t sure if they had left it in the restaurant, so she wasn’t even sure if it really never left the room…and she said she didn’t really use it that much anyway…then why in God’s name are you looking for it in the middle of the night?????? Plus after she had put her services on hold, she asked Jayson to call the number, but of course he only got her voicemail at that time, because it wasn’t working. That’s what our HM also said, why didn’t she give Geanina the number and have her call it, so they could trace the sound of it when it was ringing..instead of making all that noise and putting her services on hold??
So, yeah, that was kind of a weird day so to speak!
Meanwhile I have been in my new room, with my new roommate for about 5 days now and we get along great! We’re able to talk and laugh with eachother and it is really nice. She’s a cabinstewardess , which is not one of the easiest jobs here on this ship. She used to be an accountant, so she asked me what she needed to do in order to become a receptionist. So I told her that I thought that with her experience she wouldn’t have any trouble becoming a receptionist. I told her to talk to the Housekeeper about it, that she could get some lessons from Jayson. So the next day she told me that she had her talk with the Housekeeper, who had told her that she couldn’t take any lessons to become a receptionist, because she wasn’t a good cabinstewardess yet……Excuse me?! She told me that she had asked her why she had taken a job as a cabinstewardess in the first place when she really wanted to be in reception..to find her way in of course!!! I mean she’s from Romania, where it is really hard to get any kind of a job, which by the way the Housekeeper should know because she’s from Romania herself, so you take what you can get and find your way to what it is you want to do!
I’m telling you I was pissed when she told me the Housekeepers reaction, who the H..is she to tell her no??? I mean if she really is such a bad cabinstewardess, I would jump at the chance to get her off of my hands, right? So I gave Monica the website and an emailaddress of the company that helped me get this job and I told her to send them her resume and everything. I’m sure she will be able to get a job in no time, when they see what she has done before this! It will have to wait until next season though, because I don’t think any of the ships will need another receptionist when the season is almost over, but she said that that will be okay. Unfortunately Monica will only stay here until the 23rd of this month…I hate to think about it! Finally found my own cabin and someone I can get along with and she’s leaving!!
But we’re trying not to think about that yet, in the meantime we can still talk and laugh together!
O there’s something else I have to tell you!!
A couple of days ago one of the guests ordered an Anniversary cake for another couple to be given to them yesterday. Okay, so I notify the kitchen and the restaurant and they will take care of it. So yesterday was the day and almost at the end of my shift the HM tells me, that the Maitre’D had given the cake to the wrong couple!!! Hahaha I always give him a copy of the passports of the couple it is for, so he knows who to look for. And this time he was so sure it was the right couple, but it wasn’t!! They were really surprised of course. And after he gave it to them, the guest who had ordered the cake asked the Maitre if there was going to be another cake that evening…so they had to hurry and make another one and give it to the right couple!! I was laughing!! I told her that I already thought it was strange that I had heard the song they always play for these occasions twice!! Haha
But to give him credit, it is sometimes really hard to match the pictures of the passports with the real people! Some of them are taken at least a couple of years before, plus they can wear their glasses in the picture and smile, while in Europe they have all these strict regulations about what the pictures should look like! But it was hilarious!! They know I’m pretty good with faces and they have asked me several times if I could come down to the restaurant to identify the people, but this time he was really absolutely sure…and really, absolutely wrong!!! But no one really noticed the error, except of course the first couple that got the cake!! Hahaha

That’s it for now!
